Duration of Internship: April 2013 – October 2013
Funded by ERAMSUS+

Qualifications
B.Sc. Biology, Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuania (2006 – 2010)
M.Sc. Marine Biodiversity and Conservation, Erasmus Mundus Programme (2010 – 2012)

Simona was the first intern of MER Lab. Before joining us she has had obtained a BSc in Biology at her home town Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas and a MSc at multinational Erasmus Mundus programme in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation. Shortly after finishing her studies she was awarded for a scholarship to join an intensive training course on Ocean Governance at the International Ocean Institute in Malta. Extensive theoretical knowledge and good base of team work made Simona a suitable candidate to join MER Lab team.

Simona stayed with us for 5 months during which she had an opportunity to participate in every project we were involved in. She was keen to learn new methods and eager to assist our researchers, thus enabling her to develop a broad range of skills to include extensive practical application. This valuable knowledge and experience helps her to stand out amongst entry level marine biologists within her field.

During her internship Simona built up a decent base of irreplaceable marine biology skills; her experience working with Posidonia oceanica seagrass at MER encouraged Simona to concentrate on seagrass ecosystem subject as the main interest of her research career; and lastly but not the least, Simona has finished the internship with a network of colleagues and friends made at MER.
