New project, funded under the EU LIFE instrument, aiming to prevent lionfish expansion in the Mediterranean
We are proud to announce that our proposal titled ‘RELIONMED’ aiming to REmove LIONfish from the MEDiterranean has been approved by the EU’s financial instrument LIFE. As the initiator and the major driving force behind the proposal, MER will act as the Scientific Coordinator of the project during its implementation.
RELIONMED is a four-year project which encompasses several activities strongly relying on citizen scientists’ and stakeholder’s participation. Through the project, the effectiveness of existing practices to tackle marine Invasive Alien Species (IAS) will be demonstrated, by setting up a line of defence against the lionfish invasion in the Mediterranean Sea; through early detection, rapid response and effective management of marine coastal habitats off Cyprus.
