Title:
Research Report regarding the foul biota developed on the hull of a ship following its prolonged stay at El Dekheila port, Egypt

Duration:
1 month (March 2012 – April 2012)

Funded by:
RaetsMarine Insurance B.V.

Project Description:

MER was assigned by RaetsMarine Insurance B.V. to deliver an independent report that would help clarify whether the biofouling organisms that developed on the hull of a ship that was cleaned at Singapore could occur during a 23 day period that the ship remained anchored in a port near Alexandria in Egypt.

In this report biofouling species were identified and their growth rates at the area were determined through bibliographic review. It was evaluated whether the fouling community could accumulate to such extent during the period that the ship remained in the port at Egypt and its travel to Singapore.
